ESITS is pleased to announce the appointment of Rudi Enos, founder of Special Structures Lab and an award-winning engineering designer, as a new ESITS Board of Governors member holds the position as Chair of the Shelters Training Committee.

Rudi is recognised as one of the world’s foremost designers of special structures, and one of a select group of engineers with expertise in long-span and tension membrane structures. His work requires specialist knowledge in design, analysis, manufacturing, and installation, and his portable venue designs have supported some of the largest and most prestigious events globally.

With over 50 years of experience in the events and construction industries, Rudi has delivered a wide range of projects including tension membrane roofs, lightweight access solutions, exhibition structures, demountable seating, stages, and fold-out trailers. His designs have been used across political, cultural, economic, religious, and music events worldwide, alongside his work as a specialist consultant.

An acknowledged expert in his field, Rudi has spoken at universities, international conventions, and trade events, and has delivered seminars on large temporary structures. He has also authored academic papers and contributed to discussions on event safety, including keynote and panel appearances.

His achievements include receiving the Industrial Fabrics Association International Outstanding Achievement Award, a Guinness World Record in 1999 for Tensile 1 – Valhalla as the world’s largest portable event venue, the Access All Areas Legend Award in 2025, and an Innovation Award at the UK Festival Awards 2024 for his Chevron Stage design.

Rudi has also played a key role in shaping the industry, serving on European safety standards (CEN TC 152), founding the Guild of Tentmasters and The Event Services Association (TESA), and contributing to professional bodies including Tensinet, IASS, and the Royal Society of the Arts, he is a member of all 3. He is also a published author, with further books due in the near future.

Rudi’s appointment marks a significant step for ESITS, bringing extensive expertise and leadership to support the organisation’s Shelters training Scheme and continued focus on safety, training, assessment and industry excellence.
